I don’t usually post pictures of people, but the following is the best Friend picture I’ve ever taken.

“Aunt” Dot was my grandma’s best friend from their first day at Stottville Elementary School (Upstate New York, near Hudson). Her smile could light up a room and she was dancing until she couldn’t walk. This picture was the last time they saw each other, roughly 86 years after they met. Aunt Dot passed away a couple of months later.

The question is this: is the back story necessary or does the  picture say it all?

  1. i think that the backstory solidifies the emotional bond between the subjects and transforms the photo into much more than a “record” of the event.
