The cold north wind began in the middle of the day yesterday, to chase the clouds away. We awoke to a cold clear morning.
Reminded me of the Lord of the Rings.
In Seattle the north wind usually brings clear weather, in the winter it can be very cold, since the wind is coming from Alaska and Canada. A long time ago I wrote this description of how I loved the cold, very clean north wind when I was a child: Winter wind from the north.
For Hammad Rais’s Weekend Sky #5. And the Lens Artists Challenge this week: the sun will come out tomorrow.
Beautiful!

They were something. The low angle of the fall light really makes the clouds pop.

I love the purple and fire in the sky. I don’t think I’ve seen that where I live. Your photos are breath-taking.

Thanks. I read somewhere, not sure if it accurate, that the purple results from ice crystals in the clouds.

According to a quick search on the WWW, there are two reasons why the sky is purple: (1) volcanic eruptions – which I doubt that is happening near you – and (2) from water droplets fracturing light before a storm – which sounds more likely.

Great photos I love the movement of the spheres. This silly app. Doesn’t let me like, nor stay logged in.
