This week I spent some time relearning and, hopefully, moving a bit forward in understanding how to use luminosity masks.
I used some photos from Hawaii. It allowed me to immerse myself in warm sunny memories during the dark cloudy days as the winter solstice approaches. It’s almost here: in two weeks the days will start to be noticeably brighter.
Here are a few before/after.

I love the edits Kate! As for the water and the scenery, it is beautiful

What a gorgeous spot! Before covid, our family had been planning a trip to Hawaii. It’s summer, here, and warming up nicely. Those beach scenes are thoroughly enticing.

Sometimes I add a luminosity mask in Photoshop and set the blend mode to multiply, you can also adjust the opacity. Nice work!

I use the GIMP, but it’s the same. Sometimes just enhancing one layer (for me it’s often the sky that needs a boost) can make a lot of difference.

I enjoyed looking at the differences in the pictures. I really liked the change in the sunrise pic! The others were a bit more subtle, but several really did show an improvement.

One advantage to this technique is the ability to do subtle adjustments, both local and global.
