Nothing but blue skies…

…At least for now. They are predicting snow later today.

This is a a follow up to the Winter Storm Watch post. Here is approximately the same view this morning.

Early morning skies: View from Cedarhurst on Vashon Island across Colvos Passage on Puget Sound toward the west.

In the above photo you can just see the top of the mountain I mentioned in that post, Mount Constance. Zooming in you can see the snow from the storm:

A reminder of the cloud break up that the mountains cause (you can also see how the water is affected by the neutral density filter)

The same view as a winter storm blew in.

The gray is back today

It’s too dark to take decent photos outside today. But I want to share yesterday’s golden hour and sunset. The clouds were rather unusual; they had a cool texture that caught the light in interesting ways.

Why do you go away? So that you can come back*

Today’s Bloganuary prompt is “What is a road trip you would love to take? (I skipped yesterday’s because I have absolutely no clue what advice I’d give to my teenage self. Way too long ago.)

Driving trips are not my favorite thing

I am not a big fan of road trips. Things go by too fast.

I am better now about pulling over, but I still feel like I miss too much. For some reason, a mix of my personality and up-bringing make it hard for me to pull over easily. Driving takes too much of my attention to let me see things well and I don’t react fast enough to opportunity. I’m often well past before I decide I want to see something better.

But I digress…

There’s no place like home

There are many places to see and things to do in the world. I’ve been blessed to do, perhaps, more than my fair share. And there are more places I’d like to go, but my only recurring road trip ambition is to explore all the nooks and crannies of my home state: Washington.

Through the years I’ve made some progress.

There’s gold on them thar hills!

Just got back from a quick road trip to Eastern Washington. We went to Lake Chelan and took a boat trip on the Lake called the “Lady Express” run by the Lady of the Lake Boat Company. The round-trip takes you from Chelan to Stehekin in the North Cascades and back again.

The day was about as close to perfect as one would dare to hope for, a calm lake surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and just enough clouds to make for interesting pictures. In some spots the leaves of the trees looked like cascades of gold down the stark hillsides. But the icing on the cake was when we saw the family of mountain goats as we chugged back at the end of the day.

Mountain goats.

We felt exceptionally fortunate since today was very rainy and we wouldn’t have been able to see anything much. What a difference one day can make.
