China red

When I think of China I think of the color red. These are some photos from trips I took there in 2014.

The Chinese love the color red. It symbolizes fire and happiness…along with a lot of other things. This article talks a bit about that: Lucky numbers and colors in Chinese culture.

China red is a classic paint color and Pantone has a Chinese red:

PANTONE  18-1663 TPX Chinese Red

Color Values:

  • RGB 190 34 57
  • HEX/HTML BE2239
Block of Pantone's Chinese red color.

How does this compare to the reds I actually saw in China?

Bright pink world

Squirrel peeking down from among the cherry blossoms.
Bright eyes and a bushy tail in the bright pink cherry blossoms.

The bright spot of Ginger’s day yesterday was espying a squirrel in the blossoms.

Ginger likes to keep an eye on the little rascal in the tree.

It looked like it had snowed cherry blossoms…hard to believe there are any left in the tree.

Just a hint of green

Spring is here technically but it’s still pretty chilly. Sunday I went out in search of signs of spring. The first spring green I found was the very healthy moss growing on the fire pit. It was spring green the color, but a very winter-y sort of growth.

From a distance there doesn’t seem to be much green in the woods.

Brrr: The first day of spring wasn’t green and bright.

Looking closer, I found a few brave leaves starting to emerge.

Naturally the stinging nettle was the most lush!
