Whatsoever is lovely…day 16

Sage’s gold

When the light is just right…

This November I am chasing happiness by photographing and sharing one lovely thing I see each day. I do edit the photos, often with an artistic effect like the one above, because playing with a lovely thing makes me happy.

Note: My son checked with his co-workers and, while they haven’t heard the phrase gan xingfu, they thought it was just fine to use.

Fall leaves

I loved the many colors in these leaves.

Whatsoever is lovely…day 12

Cone flower

On dark days it seems almost like these flowers emit light.

Lovely colors

Today’s lovely is just the colors, while walking the dogs I was struck by the fall colors of a neighbor’s hydrangea.

Whatsoever is lovely…day 2

A bright cherry leaf displaying its fall colors of yellow and orange. Photo was edited suing Topaz Studio 2.
A fallen sunbeam?

Today is gray and wet. The fallen and soon to fall leaves are a bright spot on the day. They soaked up the sunshine all summer and are now drifting down. This cherry leave is giving off one last flash of light before it starts to compost.

There’s gold on them thar hills!

Just got back from a quick road trip to Eastern Washington. We went to Lake Chelan and took a boat trip on the Lake called the “Lady Express” run by the Lady of the Lake Boat Company. The round-trip takes you from Chelan to Stehekin in the North Cascades and back again.

The day was about as close to perfect as one would dare to hope for, a calm lake surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery and just enough clouds to make for interesting pictures. In some spots the leaves of the trees looked like cascades of gold down the stark hillsides. But the icing on the cake was when we saw the family of mountain goats as we chugged back at the end of the day.

Mountain goats.

We felt exceptionally fortunate since today was very rainy and we wouldn’t have been able to see anything much. What a difference one day can make.

Auriate deciduous-ness

A rather belated entry for Paula’s Thursday’s Special Pick a word. Brought on by autumnal inspiration this week.

Golden Japanese maple leaves.
My maple is turning golden: Aureate and Deciduous.
My fuzzy friends Ginger (with the ginger-y spots) and Asta.
The pups ready for their walk: Canine and Deciduous and Aureate.
A withered brown maple leaf.
Ready to fall: Desolate and Deciduous.

I didn’t have a separate photo for Consecrated, but I feel like my yard is blessed during this golden season.

Fall glory

The past few days have been glorious. The lower angle of the sun makes the fall foliage glow. The blue skies compliment the golden to red palette of fall leaves. We took a long walk today, it is already clouding up and the next few days will be rainy, if the forecasts are correct.

I also want to share this great quote that I found yesterday:

For Sunday Stills: a celebration of leaves.
