Whatsoever is Lovely Challenge-2022 Week 47

This challenge is simple: step back for a few minutes each week to find a lovely thing, a precious moment, anything you find lovely. Then post about it. You can just post a picture or you can go into detail and tell it as a reflection, story or poem.

It could be anything:

a smile…a rainbow…a flower…a kind act…a tasty treat

What was lovely in your life this week?

Autumnal Wabi-Sabi

Autumn is the season of wabi-sabi.

Wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is ‘imperfect, impermanent and incomplete in nature.’

definition from Wikipedia

Illustrations of wabi-sabi from this morning’s walk.

I spotted a spotted towhee in the yard this morning.

Gan Xingfu (chasing happiness) 赶兴福

This November I am chasing happiness by photographing and sharing one lovely thing I see each day. I do edit the photos, often with an artistic effect like the one above, because playing with a lovely thing makes me happy.

Note: My son checked with his co-workers and, while they haven’t heard the phrase gan xingfu, they thought it was just fine to use.

Purple velvet

I do not know what the actual name of this plant is (please let me know if you do). I call it purple velvet. The hummingbirds like it but they fly away when the pups approach. Today the light was just right.

November sky-Method 1
November sky-Method 2

The clouds gathering this morning made a dramatic back drop for the newly bare trees. I tried out a couple of different treatments on the same photo. Does one appeal to you more than the other (the original is in the header?

Clematis feathers

The flowers are pretty but I am fascinated by the feathers that grow on clematis seed heads.

Thanksgiving cactus

Another exotic. When I got this years ago because I liked its colors. I called it a “Christmas Cactus”, but apparently it’s actually called a Thanksgiving or crab (because of the shape of its segments) cactus. Also known as a Schlumbergeria. I played around in Topaz Studio 2 trying out different painterly effects.
