A virtual visit to the Mountain-part 1

I am supposed to be at Mount Rainier right now, on our annual trip. But it got canceled. Every year is different, depending on when the snow melts, how warm the summer is and how much rainfall, you can have totally different flowers blooming.

These are from the year 2014. It was a cool, misty week and the lupines were amazing.

Magic Mountain

Better than any ride at Disneyland! The lupines along this portion of the trail were amazing.

These are some photos of the upper (higher elevation) portion of the lakes loop trail starting at Paradise. We had a misty but bright morning the day we hiked the loop.

A little mountain magic: blue flowers

Lupines always seem impossible to me. The color seems like fairy magic, especially when lit by a stab of sunlight sneaking in through the trees.

I randomly grabbed a book to take on our recent trip: The Tolkien Reader and it contained an essay called “On Fairy-stories”, which is very long. Reading it affected the way I saw things.

A Little Morning Magic

In the morning light these lupines made me feel like I was in a fairy tale…or is that ferry tale?

Yesterday I awoke at the beach and the pups and I walked the beach while the sun was still low. One of dad’s neighbors has a wildflower (they are actually planted, lupines aren’t native to Vashon) garden.

I felt very far away from the stresses of the world.
