Whatsoever is Lovely Challenge-2022 Week 13

This challenge is simple: step back for a few minutes each week to find a lovely thing, a precious moment, anything you find lovely. Then post about it. You can just post a picture or you can go into detail and tell it as a reflection, story or poem.

It could be anything:

a smile…a rainbow…a flower…a kind act…a tasty treat

What was lovely in your life this week?

Whatsoever is lovely…day 9

A sunbreak on a stormy day

Today was very stormy. Fortunately for the dogs the brief break in the weather coincided with a low enough tide that they could have a brief run on the beach before those dark clouds arrived and started dumping on us.

This November I am chasing happiness by photographing and sharing one lovely thing I see each day. I do edit the photos, often with an artistic effect like the one above, because playing with a lovely thing makes me happy.

Note: My son checked with his co-workers and, while they haven’t heard the phrase gan xingfu, they thought it was just fine to use.

Whatsoever is lovely…day 8

November gold

Lovely weather today makes a nice change of pace. It’s been a calm golden day, a mere pause though: Yesterday was very dark and rainy and I saw an article that called our upcoming weather pattern a “roller coaster”.

Whatsoever is lovely…day 7

An early morning rainbow

It was a full arc but I couldn’t get a good angle to show the whole thing in one frame. I got wet taking these. It takes both sun and rain to make a rainbow.

American Wigeon (probably)

These are winter ducks. There are an awful lot of them this year.

Local trees in summer

Between the land and sea.

This was taken yesterday at Fern Cove Nature Preserve on Vashon Island in Puget Sound. A typical forest for the shores of the Puget Sound: mostly the brighter green trees are alder with a few big leaf maples. The evergreens are a mix of Douglas fir, hemlock and western red cedar.

These trees help to keep us cool. One of the factors heating up our area is cutting down the forest and replacing it with grass and pavement. When I was a child (a long time ago) we never saw temps in the 90s (degrees Fahrenheit), let alone days over 100.
