It is fun the way the drops magnify the details in the petals.
These are supposed to be our last raindrops for a while…it has turned bright and sunny and is supposed to stay that way for a bit.

Still on my fern kick, this time it is the lowly bracken fern. I’ve always thought that the name was rather ugly for such an elegant, if common, plant.
The salmon berry is unusual in that it has a bright pink flower. Seems like most other berries have white or pale pink ones. The color of the berries is usually orange, but can be on the red side if they get sun (since it tends to grow in dense woods that is an anomaly). It’s called “salmon berry” because the orange berries look like a cluster of salmon roe. It is kind of watery and doesn’t have a strong flavor, either sweet or tart, compared with thimble-berries, huckleberries or blackberries.
The blossoms on my Japanese maple tree are tiny and sway in the slightest breeze. Every year I try to capture these tiny charmers with my camera. Here are a few attempts from last week.
In spite of its rather ugly name, spurge, or euphorbia, has charming little flowers.
For Brashley Photography’s Photo for the Week: Flowers, and a second entry for Sunshine’s Macro Monday.
In early January I published a post about a flower bud. I wasn’t sure what it was. I still don’t know, but when I walked the dogs this afternoon it was blooming. It smells lovely.
One of the simple joys of the just past mid-winter season is when my dad’s Pink Perfection camellias bloom. Somehow they appeal to me most on the darkest wettest days…like they are saying “neeener-neeener” to the winter weather.
These bushes are over 60 years old. My father, now in his early 80’s, worked for the local green house company when he was in high school and they were experimenting with camellia’s for corsages. Because the blooms are so delicate and bruise so easily they were not deemed a good commercial idea and they tore out the bushes. Ever the scavenger, Dad brought them home and planted them. They have been abused and battered by winter storms for over sixty years, yet every year they put forward gorgeousness in the midst of dank grey. Just when I need it most!
For Sunshine’s Macro Monday…and Jez’s Water Water Everywhere (there were A LOT of raindrops! and me feet got really wet taking these pictures).
